MEL'S NOTES

A new addition to our Raya collection, this steamed fruit cake is a labour of love, with a touch of nutmeg and bursting with fruits. It is the quintessential Hari Raya cake but if I’m being honest, it took me years to fully appreciate this cake. As a kid, I’d never touch this cake, I just didn’t like the texture or its rather plain appearance. Nowadays, whenever I see Kek Kukus, I seem to be trying to catch up on all those years that I missed enjoying the cake. I love its caramelised flavour, that hint of spice, the juicy fruit bits and its elegant reputation. We make small batches of these only (because it takes hours to steam!), so please give it a try!
